Abstract. Punishment in the form of imprisonment refers to this type of social and legal coercion, in which the entire way of life of a person undergoes serious changes. Based on this, specialists in various fields of scientific knowledge, primarily penitentiary criminologists and sociologists, are trying to solve the problem of post-penitentiary social adaptation of a person after his release from prison. In this article, the author examines the sociological problems faced by a person released from punishment in the process of preparing for life in a «free society». In particular, it is noted that the conditions of imprisonment involve isolation of the convicted person from society, which entails a fairly large amount of social and legal restrictions. The longer the period of time spent in isolation, the more strongly the convicted person learns the patterns of behavior corresponding to an isolated society. The relevance of the problem under consideration is due to the systemic changes that have occurred in social and regulatory relations during the period of serving a sentence by a convicted person. He will have to radically change the conditions of his life after leaving the correctional institution. It is precisely the difficulties that a person faces after liberation that are a significant obstacle to his normal life in a «free society». The main focus of experts is on the so-called «administrative supervision», which called for solving the tasks of social adaptation among the negatively minded released. This legal instrument has rather limited properties, which does not allow it to be used in a large circle of those who are being released. The author shows the importance of the organizational and managerial aspect for more effective work of institutions and bodies of the penal correction system for the correction of persons sentenced to imprisonment.
