Abstract. Juvenile convicts held in hospital colonies belong to the most difficult category in terms of the application of penitentiary practices. That is why it is so important to consider the issues of ensuring the personal safety of such persons during their isolation from society. The author of the article sees the main problem of solving security problems in the process of serving sentences by juvenile convicts in their social experience prior to conviction. The article pays great attention to issues related to the specifics of the socialization of minors in modern conditions. The previously existing socio-pedagogical mechanisms for the formation of a law-abiding personality have lost their effectiveness. The state has begun to pay less attention to the leisure component of the process of socialization of minors and youth. This became one of the conditions that allowed various marginal associations to «fill» the socializing «vacuum». Minors, in fact, have no positive life orientations left. In addition, if we take a specific category of juvenile offenders, then their lifestyle in modern conditions is «artificially criminalized», which forms a certain social experience. During his stay in isolation in a correctional institution, a minor is faced with a choice of his attitude to the requirements of normative behavior. The author states that in conditions of isolation from society, there are two regulatory systems — formal and informal. The latter currently prevails, therefore it is the basic guideline for choosing safe behavioral imperatives. In conclusion, the author emphasizes that in the current situation, in the social environment of those serving sentences in an educational colony, ensuring the personal safety of a convicted person is fully envious of having a socially negative experience.
