Those sentenced to imprisonment are considered to be the most difficult due to their specific legal status and living conditions. Traditionally, in sociological science, people sentenced to imprisonment are considered to be \u00absilent\u00bb and difficult to interview from the perspective of collecting empirical material. And even more so, if we talk about people of young age. Based on the materials of mass sociological surveys, the article examines the value bases of the life strategies of young convicts serving prison sentences in four southern regions of the Russian Federation. 604 people were interviewed using a standardized interview method. The sample included only convicts aged 20 to 30 years. The regions and the quantitative composition of the respondents were distributed as follows: Rostov Region \u2014 197 people; Krasnodar Territory \u2014 149 people; Adygea \u2014 115 people; Stavropol Territory \u2014 143 people. The results of an empirical study allowed the author to identify competing models of life strategies for the self-realization of convicts of youth age. In particular, their determinative basis is two independent factors: (1) the age characteristics of the convicted persons; (2) the territorial location of their permanent place of residence and the place of serving their sentence of imprisonment. In addition, each of these factors can be determined not only by the experience of being in a correctional institution, but also by the pre-prison experience of the convict.
