Abstract. The scientific problem of the research is as follows: in the process of acquiring the characteristics and status of a social institution, the legitimized movement and increasingly unified organizational forms of mentoring began to be largely perceived by the population and practiced by functionaries at a formal and primitive level.
The relevance of the study lies in the need for a real role and specific meaning of the said innovative educational social institution and the mechanism of modern social policy in the field of education.
The purpose of this work is not just to position the relevance of the sociological approach to the problem under study, but to identify the specific purpose and real role of the «mentoring institution» as a mechanism for the socialization of young people and the implementation of social educational policy.
Organization and methods of research: the practice of applying the sociological approach to the analysis of the specific purpose and real role of the «mentoring institution» as a mechanism for the socialization of young people and the implementation of social educational policy implies the development and implementation of a comprehensive specific sociological study, including sociological methods: analysis of documents (official scientific publications and documentary materials in the form of decrees, regulations, orders, social and educational programs and projects); survey in the form of individual expert interviews and group questionnaires.
The active participation of a mentor plays a key role in the socialization of high school students. Mentors not only help develop social skills and self-confidence in students, but also provide support in adapting to changes in the lives of adolescents. They not only help students adapt to the social environment, but also contribute to the development of career identity. Effective interaction between a mentor and students can significantly increase the level of engagement and success of the latter in the educational process.
Keywords: mentoring; the role of a mentor; mentoring models; high school students; skills; career; social environment
