Abstract. In domestic and foreign science, those sentenced to imprisonment are traditionally considered as one of the most difficult social communities from the point of view of sociological assessment. In particular, experts note the low representativeness of research conducted in this area. The presented article is devoted to one of the important problems of the re-socialization of convicts after serving a custodial sentence, where the main element of which is his family and its resources. The problem basically boils down to the fact that a person who has been released from prison is experiencing significant limitations in the possibilities of pre-institutional re-socialization. In this regard, his connection with his family is of particular importance, which in turn can be considered as an independent resocializing resource. The author convincingly shows the need for a constructive approach in determining the life strategy of a released convict in need of re-socialization. The quality of social adaptation after release fully depends on the social consequences that can be determined by the resource capabilities of his parents. An important component of the basic conditions for constructing their life strategy, both during serving their sentence and after release, is the resource base of their family. There is a serious discrepancy between the expectations of the released person and the resource potentials of his parents. It is here that there is a serious discrepancy between the subjective needs of the convict and the lack of family resources. The article typologizes the most common family resources, shows their socio-cultural content and the resocializing effect.
